The MINE Lab at the University of Notre Dame has several openings for talented and motivated researchers who are passionate about advancing AI through creative research and practical applications.

We are seeking individuals who are excited to work on cutting-edge topics in machine learning, knowledge engineering, and AI applications in science. Our lab values innovation, collaboration, and a commitment to developing AI solutions that are both technically excellent and socially beneficial.

PhD Positions

We are looking for PhD students with strong backgrounds in computer science, mathematics, or related fields to join our team. Successful candidates will work on research projects in areas such as:

  • Foundation models and language understanding
  • Trustworthy and responsible AI
  • Graph-based machine learning
  • AI for scientific discovery (Chemistry, Biology, Physics)
  • Knowledge representation and reasoning

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics or related field
  • Strong programming skills and experience with machine learning frameworks
  • Excellent academic record and research potential
  • Good communication skills in English

Postdoctoral Researchers

With the support of Lucy Family Institute for Data & Society, the Foundation Models and Applications Lab (FMAL) is launched! It is co-directed by Prof. Xiangliang Zhang and Prof. Meng Jiang. There is an opening position for a postdoctoral researcher. The research topic is Foundation Models and Applications, emphasizing interdisciplinary collaborations. Contact us if you are interested!

Requirements

  • PhD in Computer Science, Machine Learning, AI or related field
  • Strong publication record in top-tier conferences or journals
  • Experience with deep learning frameworks and large-scale experiments
  • Excellent research skills and independence
