PhD Positions

We are seeking PhD students with strong backgrounds in computer science, mathematics, or related fields to work on foundation models and language understanding, trustworthy and responsible AI, graph-based machine learning, AI for scientific discovery (chemistry, biology, physics), and knowledge representation and reasoning.

Applicants should hold a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related discipline. While a strong publication record is not strictly required, we value students who are self-motivated, diligent, and eager to develop as independent researchers. Strong programming skills and experience with machine learning frameworks are desirable, along with good academic performance and English communication skills.

Applications for PhD positions should be submitted through the Notre Dame Graduate School application system. Please indicate your interest in the MINE Lab in your statement of purpose. See: Notre Dame CSE PhD requirements.

Postdoctoral Researchers

With the support of the Lucy Family Institute for Data & Society, the Foundation Models and Applications Lab (FMAL) has been launched under the co-direction of Prof. Xiangliang Zhang and Prof. Meng Jiang. We are inviting applications for a postdoctoral researcher position focused on foundation models and their applications, with an emphasis on interdisciplinary collaborations.

Applicants should hold a PhD in Computer Science, Machine Learning, AI, or a related field. A strong publication record at top-tier venues is highly desirable, along with experience in deep learning frameworks and large-scale experiments. We're looking for candidates who possess excellent research skills, independence, and the drive to pursue impactful work.

To apply, please send your CV and list of publications to xzhang33@nd.edu with the subject line "Postdoc Application – FMAL."
